Charlotte Youth Trumpet Ensemble

Iā€™m thrilled to share the beginning of the second season of the Charlotte Youth Trumpet Ensemble! Our inaugural season last year was a huge success that was capped with a fantastic Festival of Trumpets Concert and one of the ensembles being selected as one of twelve semifinalists for the National Trumpet Competition.

While everyone is struggling to find creative ways to make music during the global pandemic, the youth trumpet ensemble seems more important than ever and perhaps already structured to function well with the restrictions in place. Because the ensembles are small and new face and bell coverings have given trumpeters a safe way to make music, I feel confident that we will be able to minimize the risk of potential infection while also reconnecting by making music in person. Detailed rehearsal protocols will be sent to participants before rehearsals begin to ensure we can safely make music together.

If you are planning on auditioning for the group, I highly encourage you to purchase both a performance face mask and bell cover ASAP, as these will be required to participate in rehearsals and they are in high demand right now. You can find these here ( or at many other online stores.

AUDITIONS: Auditions this year will be video submissions. Applicants should submit a video of them performing a solo/etude of their choice (the All-State/All-District repertoire is acceptable) as well as them performing a Bb (concert Ab) and G (concert F) scales, both two octaves if possible. Audition videos should be uploaded to YouTube as unlisted and must be submitted by Monday, November 9, 2020 at 6:30 PM. All high school students in North or South Carolina are eligible to participate in the ensemble.

INFORMATION SESSION: An online information session via Zoom will occur on Monday, November 9, 2020 at 6:30 PM. We will discuss the goals and structure of the ensemble, new rehearsal protocols, student expectations, and more. All students interested in being a part of the ensemble are highly encouraged to attend. The link to join the meeting can be accessed here:

Rehearsals: More information on rehearsal times and locations will be available soon. Rehearsals are tentatively planned for  Monday evenings and will begin the week of November 16, 2020.
